Aori Nishimura is a 23-year-old Japanese professional skateboarder. She started skating at the age of 7 and, by the fifth grade, had already won the national competition in Japan. At the age of 15, she was the first Japanese to win gold in the 2017 X-Games.

Nishimura’s Injury

Shortly after this victory, Nishimura suffered from an injury in her knee that required serious surgery, Which forced her to temporarily move away from skateboarding for at least eight months. and after only six months of recovery, Nishimura returned to training and competing.

At the Minneapolis X-Games in July 2018, 19-year-old Nishimura decided to pick up skateboarding again after reconstructive knee surgery. Nishimura finished the sport’s most prestigious tournament in second place.

Nishimura only improved after gaining full momentum. Leticia Bufoni, the crowd favorite from Rio de Janeiro, lost to the Japanese skateboarder in the finals of the inaugural SLS World Championships. Later in the year, she added two consecutive X-Games golds to her ever-growing medal tally.
