Koston’s early life and Career
Eric Koston, born on April 29, 1975, in Bangkok, Thailand, moved to California at just nine months old. Settling in San Bernardino after his parents’ divorce, he began skateboarding at age 11 when his brother gave him an old Mark Gonzales skateboard.While attending skate camp, furthermore Koston crossed paths with Eddie Elguera, who became his mentor. Eventually, Koston left high school in 10th grade to pursue a career as a professional skateboarder.
In 1992, he relocated to Los Angeles, joining the 101 Skateboards team alongside Natas Kaupas to explore his switch stance skills. Koston’s achievements include being named Skater of the Year (SOTY) in 1996 and being featured in multiple issues of Thrasher Magazine (1993, 1997, 2000). Notably, he made history in 2015 as the first pro skater to appear in a McDonald’s commercial.

In 2007, Eric Koston and Steve Berra created “The Berrics” in Los Angeles, a renowned skate plaza. With its painted steps, rails, and flat banks, surrounded by simulated stores and billboards, this private facility exclusively welcomes guests. It serves as the venue for the popular skate contest “The Battle of the Berrics,” numerous shooting sessions, and online projects. The Berrics has amassed three million followers on Instagram.
“The Berrics” combines the “Ber” from Steve’s surname and the “ric” from Koston’s first name, forming a portmanteau word.
In 2016, Eric partnered with Guy Mariano to co-own the clothing brand Fourstar. They later joined forces again to establish the skateboard company Number Edition.
